Tidal Flood Campaign

Multiple factors have

compounded

the tidal flood situation in

coastal Kerala.

A photo/ video documentation campaign was run in the months of April and May, 2022, in the weeks predicted to have extreme tidal flooding based on the monitoring studies of EQUINOCT.  It was intended to build a crowd-sourced documentation of tidal flooding in the coastal and estuarine regions of Ernakulam district. This would help in the future actions of EQUINOCT towards sensitisation of tidal flooding as a natural disaster that is affecting the safety, security and quality of coastal and estuarine lives. As a part of the campaign several coastal gram panchayats in the region such as Elakunnapuzha, Njarakkal, Edavankkad were visited by EQUINOCT to build a rapport with the local governance bodies in its future actions for building tidal flooding resilience among the affected communities.

The campaign was conducted with the funding support of Fiftyplus Scientific and organisational support of Community Resource Centre, Puthenvelikkara and MS Swaminathan Research Foundation (MSSRF).

In continuation of the work, We are planning to undertake targeted year long campaigns in selected coastal panchayats of the Ernakulam district with the collaboration of MSSRF and CRC, Puthenvelikkara.
